In defense of Sunny Leone....

“What is our country coming to when a Bon girl can be a heroine? Outrageous” said the 'decent' family man.
“What’s a Bon girl? You mean a Bond girl?” I ask.
“You know, blue films” replied the family man in a hushed tone.
“Oh, porn!. But what are you referring to” I exclaim.
"Sunny Leone," said the man in a lower tone as he shook his head in dismay.
“So have you seen any of her films?” I inquire.
“What? No, emphatically and certainly not, I am a respectable man, I never indulge in such vulgar activities” was the reply from the indignant family man with certitude.
“In fact, she should be banned from making films. For spoiling the atmosphere” continued the enraged family man.
“Banning is for an inanimate creation not for human beings," said I
"What are you saying? I am talking about the bad atmosphere" said the perplexed family man.
"If you want to not spoil the atmosphere the best solution is focused on climate change carbon emission and perhaps ultra-violet rays from the Sun, not Sunny.” I reply.
“The other day I went to the multiplex to show my family, the film Paddington, it was a nice film such a sweet film. I wish they made more films like that. I enjoyed it and so did the wife and kids. There was a large poster of Sunny Leone in one of her new films. She was wearing a top so small and so tight I could see her boobs, a little smaller and you would be able to see her nipples. Then the whole tummy area was open and the bottom that she wore was so low, a little lower and you would see her nether areas. I mean it is so embarrassing in front of the wife and kid. I complained to the manager. He said he will look into it. Do we want our kids’ lives to be ruined by such filth? What is our government doing? We should really stop this nonsense. This is foreign culture they are trying to ruin us again. All they want is sex, sex, and more sex. It is terrible. What am I supposed to say when my young son who is only ten year old about who is Sunny? How do i react ” said the concerned decent family man.

"Hey I noticed you follow Sunny Leone on Twitter," said I

"But how do you know i am on Twitter" said the man.

"Our mutual friend told me, Sammy told me" said I

"Following Sunny! It must be a technical error! I will go home and rectify it." said the family man turning read with angry

"I see you follow not just @Sunny_Hot_Times @Sunny_Puss.." said I

"My account has been jacked. I need to go home and fix it. I cannot allow this filth to pollute my life anymore." said the family man as he took to his heels and rushed home.

The decent family man has plenty of support, even from this gent here.

It is interesting to know that years ago, a tape surface showing Dr. Singhvi in flagrante delicto

So let’s look at Sunny Leone before she came to India. She started her career as model and then went on to become an adult film star and nude model. She was also named Penthouse Pet of the year in 2003 and was a contract star for Vivid Entertainment an US based adult film production company. So was she filmed harming an individual? No. Did she harm a child? No. Did she harm an animal? No. So what did she do? She posed nude for pictures and participated in sex acts that were filmed. Miss Leone is an adult and is fully within her rights to do as she pleases. She has spoken openly about her past and has now embarked on a career in the Hindi film industry. Is she putting a gun to anybody's head and forcing them to watch her? Emphatically not. All those who do not which to watch her can simply not buy a ticket for her film and change the channel that she appears on.

But the big question is can Sunny be a bad influence on our younger generation?  Her films are certified as Adult which means nobody under the age of 18 can watch these films. If an individual is adult enough to vote and to marry, he is adult enough to watch a film and decide what is good for him or her.

How about those underage. The only way ‘bad influences’ can affect a child is bad parenting. Will banning help? The emergence of the internet, it is impossible to ban or put a stop on any sort of material. In banning makes it the forbidden fruit that everybody covets and often elevates the mediocre to prominence. So even if the wish of the family man was granted and Miss Leone was prevented from making mainstream Hindi films. Her previous work will always be available for people to consume.

So should the very young be allowed to watch ?  While pornographic films may not be harming anybody, it is not the wholesome experience that should be used while introducing somebody to sex.
Total supervision of a child is probably impossible after a certain age. So how does one prevent their
children from getting their first experience of sex from a porn film. The answer is simple. Sex education where where doctors, scientists and psychologists can participate in the instruction. It has to be made compulsory in every school with that also the consequences of promiscuity. The more it is taught and understood, the more the individual will be in control of his or her sexuality and that will conquer the unhealthy curiosity that can lead to harmful experimentation.

If Sunny Leone is harmful because she made porn films What about superhero films because of the display of unrealistic heroism? What about advertisements that objectify women? What about comedy shows that are silly and crude? What about TV serials that display the more regressive mindsets? What about politicians that indulge in petty bickering and quarrels in parliament? What about item songs that are loaded with double entente? All of these are likely to harm a child. So do we ban everything? The only way for a parent to protect their child to educate, instill values, guide and to create an atmosphere were free exchange of ideas is welcomed. It is impossible to insulate an individual from anything harmful. But hopefully the values will prevent the individual from choosing what can be harmful.

In the end like everybody else Miss Leone is here to make a living and the market will decide if she has to stay or pack her bags. Her recent film opened bigger than Anushka Sharma’s NH-10 which demonstrates that there is an interest among many in her career and her films. So the naysayers will have to swallow their pride and let her continue and brush up their parenting skills instead of blaming their failures on external factors
