There was a time when activism was what individuals did in addition to their full-time profession. It usually earned them no money. They often sacrificed a great deal for the betterment of society. The activist was greatly respected far and wide, often didn’t have much in their bank accounts.
But that was a long long time ago.
What do we have now?
Activism is a profession and not a passion. The aspiring activist major gender studies, minority studies, LQBTQ studies, feminist studies, race
studies at University.
They are just like any regular employee who seeks employment at a firm that offers the best pay and perks and changes jobs for greener pastures. Hence the activist may begin supporting feminist causes but will move toward the environment if the perks are better and then towards BLM.
Such is the ridiculousness of it all that there is going to be a reality/competition show called 'The Activist' where celebrities will pick a winner.
There is copious hypocrisy on display, feminist activists will turn a blind eye on sexual abuse if it is one of their big donors, anti-gun activists are often accompanied by bodyguards, socialists who live in grand mansions, and environmental activists travel by private jet to attend a meeting on reducing pollution.
The high priestess of hypocrisy is activist-socialist Congresswoman Alexandria
Ocasio-Cortez aka AOC.
To say that regular Americans suffering is an understatement, inflation is high, unemployment is high, the pandemic seems to be making a comeback and
finally, Afghanistan has been taken over by the Taliban and is subjecting women and minorities to unspeakable discrimination.
So how the kind-hearted socialist react to all this?
Piers Morgan described it perfectly in
his Daily Mail Column
The socialist Congresswoman has spent the past few
years lecturing the entire world on the planet-ending evils of materialistic,
vacuous, obscenely ostentatious capitalism.
Yet here she was prancing about on the red carpet
at the most materialistic, vacuous, obscenely ostentatious example of
capitalism imaginable – surrounded by hundreds of the wealthiest and most
privileged people in American society.
Tickets for the Met Gala cost $35,000 a head,
enough to feed three average American families of four for a year according to
the United States Department of Agriculture.
Yet Ocasio-Cortez believed it was her
'responsibility' to attend this ludicrously pointless celebration of totally
unnecessary and often cringe-worthy extravagance.
In a comical effort to fend off her critics, she
wore a white dress with the words 'Tax the rich' sprawled across in it in red
lettering.
But who was she kidding?
Not Andray Domise, from black news network
Rezistans Nwa, who pointed out that the gala was taking place just yards from
where the NYPD were arresting 'defund the police' protesters - a cause that AOC
has previously supported.
'Police were creasing people's heads outside while
you and your friends were nibbling watermelon tarts with smoked yuzu soy on
panipuri crackers,' he seethed on Twitter.
Naturally, Ocasio-Cortez believed she was still
being a good little socialist, disingenuously insisting that her only
motivation for attending the fancy party was to prompt a debate about taxing
the rich.
'We need to break the fourth wall and challenge
some of the institutions,' she said. 'While the Met is known for its spectacle,
we should have some conversations about it.'
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, once said the following about the annual gala: 'It's an elite gathering, I'm not an elite guy. Let's make it real simple, it's just not my thing. This is the kind of place where the elite goes and likes to be with each other, and I have a different approach.'
But there he was with his family posing for pictures with a broad smile on his face.
Also not to be left behind in this obscene parade of hypocrisy was New York, Rep. Carolyn Maloney. She claims to support equal rights for women.
But there she was posing for a picture with 'Equal right' on her dress' as the staffers and members of the press stood around on the periphery are forced to wear masks.
The lovely Cara Delevinge had 'Peg the patriarchy' on her dungarees.
But Cara and her colleagues in showbiz should not be judged harshly. There is nothing wrong if those who have the wealth want to pay out of their pockets and attend a fancy gala.
What we should really be irked about is the blatant hypocrisy of compulsive virtue-signaling public servants such as AOC, Maloney, and DeBiasio.
Do voters realize that for the likes of AOC and Maloney, the only cause that really matters is themselves? Doubtlessly they are a fabulous job in serving themselves and nobody else.
